On April 27 in a speech to the Council of Lawmakers, Russian President Putin warned that if any nation “intervenes from the outside” to create a threat against Russia, “our retaliatory strikes will be lightening fast.” At the same time Putin issued this clear warning, a leading official of the United Kingdom described Ukrainian strikes against Russian targets, using weapons provided by NATO allies, as “completely legitimate.” Another leading parliamentarian advocated a British intervention against Russia in the Black Sea; and Foreign Secretary Truss proudly proclaimed that “geopolitics is back”, as she laid out an global expansion of NATO forces.
